I never knew there were so many parts of the brain :P On an obscure note, when the brain says "That outta keep the little squirts happy" I think it may be a reference to a children's radio show called "Uncle Don" (1929-1949) The host, Don Carney was rumored to have said "Well, I guess that will hold the little bastards for a while" at the end of a show, unaware that the microphone was still on. And the process of storing a memory into long term takes about 20 mins. Right hemisphere is more active during dreaming, and it's the non-logical part of the brain (as opposed to the left hemisphere [in vast majority of people]), so that's why most of the time dreams don't really make sense. Try this out, think about something for a while (maybe a day, maybe more), and then see if you dream about it :)

That's pretty interesting...Almost reminds me a bit of REMOTE VIEWING techniques. But also, we've had technology like Hemi-sync and Holosync for a while that use binaural beats to entrain brainwaves into a certain state...They also synchoronize the hemispheres of the brain, and actually create new neural pathways between them. Your comment is useless. During her introduction, it's stated about 1:00 in "...those of you in the audience who are high school students and thinking of coming to UCSD". I think the fact that she explains what neurons are at the outset of her lecture gives an idea of what medical knowledge may be necessary to understand the coming lecture. That being said, it's a good intro to the material but, if you want something more advanced, this isn't going to suit your needs.

sorry for the negative criticism, but guyguysly is right. this could be a very interesting lecture for somebody in highschool or something, but if you are a medical student who say, just started to study neuroanatomy and want some help to understand the development of the brain, or the function, this isnt what your looking for. probably shes reading becouse she wrote everything down in a way everybody understands it, but this way and becouse of the tone it becomes monotone and "boring"

She is a knowledgeable and intelligent lady. She is reading not because she does not know the subject matter. She is reading because she is nervous about the presentation. I know my own subjects that I am passionate about. Yet I am unable to do this type of presentation without a major tele prompting experience or reading from a paper. She seems to be a similar case. This lecture is awesome. Just don't look at her and it will be great. She has a beautiful voice and great content for beginners.

Yawn! Good data and theories, both basic and advanced, yet very boring, almost monotone presentation of it. If this speaker has worked with this for a good portion of her life, and has played a key role in research towards it, then why can't she deliver it with that same passion? Most scientists, and professors who do more research than instruction, are unable to give good presentations. They "lecture" instead of "presenting", and they are "confronting" the audience instead of "involving" it.
